Center for Excellence Certification Award -
December 2005 by BenchmarkPortal and Purdue University
BNSF was the first and only railroad ever honored with a Center of Excellence Certification award given by Purdue University. The certification is presented to an elite group of customer service centers operating in 43 industries throughout North America. More than 55 metrics, including customer and agent satisfaction and hold time, were measured to assess the support center’s effectiveness and efficiency. To receive the Center of Excellence designation, a call center must place in the top 10 percent of all customer service centers included in the Purdue University database.

Enterprise All-Star Award - November 2005 by Network World
BNSF was named a winner in the inaugural Enterprise All-Star Awards. The Enterprise All-Star Awards, launched this year, are sponsored by Network World. The awards honor organizations that demonstrate the exceptional use of network technology to further their companies’ objectives.

InformationWeek 500 - September 2005
BNSF scored the no. 50 spot in the InformationWeek 500. The list is InformationWeek magazine’s 17th annual ranking of the nation's 500 most innovative companies, in terms of business-technology strategies, investments and administrative practices. IT executives in these highly ranked companies have worked to improve processes, increase efficiencies, align even more closely with business goals, reach out to customers, measure IT effectiveness, build top-notch tech teams and embrace innovation.

Quest for Quality Award - August 2005 by Logistics Management magazine
BNSF garnered top honors from Logistics Management in the magazine’s "Quest for Quality" Awards. "Quest for Quality" is an annual survey taken by readers of Logistics Management that is based on customer satisfaction for the freight transportation industry. On-time performance, customer service and information technology were among important factors rated in the survey. BNSF was ranked among the top three in both the standard rail service and intermodal service providers categories.

Top 10 3PL Excellence Award - August 2005 by Inbound Logistics magazine
For the second consecutive year, BNSF Logistics was named one of the top ten logistics providers in Inbound Logistics magazine’s annual Top 10 3PL Excellence Award survey. The survey’s participants, part of Inbound Logistics’ readership of more than 300,000 logistics professionals, included senior managers as well as logistics, transportation, supply chain and purchasing professionals in businesses that currently use third-party logistics services.

2004 TRANSCAER National Achievement Award - May 2005 On May 24, the National TRANSCAER Task Group, sponsored in part by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), awarded BNSF a 2004 TRANSCAER National Achievement Award. TRANSCAER, which stands for Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response, is a nationwide community outreach program designed to promote chemical transportation emergency preparedness and awareness in communities. BNSF received the National Achievement Award in the rail category for its outstanding support of TRANSCAER and for its excellence in four areas: activities, organization commitment, financial support and manpower investment.

E.H. Harriman Memorial Safety Award - May 2005 On May 19, BNSF received the silver E.H. Harriman Memorial Safety Award at a ceremony honoring railroads with the best employee safety records in 2004. In addition, BNSF and three other railroads received special certificates of commendation for continuous improvement in safety performance.

2005 IT Financial Management Excellence Award - March 2005 by IT Management IQ
The IT Management IQ, a division of the International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC), named BNSF its 2005 IT Financial Management Excellence Award winner. BNSF won in the "Best IT Metrics & Performance Measurement Structure" category. The IT Financial Management Excellence Awards were established to honor, recognize and promote IT financial management people and processes that demonstrate best practices.

2004 Best Land Deal - March 2005 by the Dallas Business Journal A unique real estate deal to expand BNSF’s Logistic Park-AllianceTexas facility led to a 2004 Best Land Deal Award given by the Dallas Business Journal. BNSF, Hillwood Development and the M.T. Cole Trust agreed to expand the park by adding 327 acres of direct rail access. This is the second time BNSF and Hillwood have received a Dallas Business Journal award for Logistics Park-AllianceTexas. The first was in 1995 when BNSF and Hillwood announced a 160-acre expansion to the facility.

Carrier of the Year Award - November 2005 by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. recognized BNSF Railway Company as the recipient of Wal-Mart’s annual Carrier of the Year Award. Selection criteria for the award included revenue and growth, ease of doing business, communication, flexibility, customer service and follow-up and correction of errors.

Rail Carrier of the Year - September 2005 by FedEx Supply Chain Services
BNSF was named Carrier of the Year in the Rail category by FedEx Supply Chain Services for the company’s 2005 fiscal year. This was the third time in the past four years that BNSF has received this award. BNSF was one of only six companies (and the only railroad) to receive this award. Criteria for the award included on-time service, safety, claims/damages, communication and freight bill accuracy.

American Honda Premier Partner Award - August 2005
On August 30, American Honda Motor Co. presented its Premier Partner Award to BNSF for excellence in rail transportation service. The Premier Partner Awards were established in 1998 to recognize suppliers who embrace American Honda’s philosophy of exceeding customer expectations. The award winners represent excellence in a variety of industries including automobile batteries, railway transportation, information technology services and marketing services. It was the seventh year BNSF received the award.

Quality Partnership Award - July 2005 by Best Buy Co. Inc.
On July 19, BNSF was presented with Best Buy Co. Inc.’s Quality Partnership Award at the Best Buy Annual Carrier Conference. BNSF was the only railroad presented with an award at the conference. Criteria for the award include on-time performance, technology, equipment condition, customer service, account management and assistance with projects and special needs.

Logistics Excellence Award for Railroad Customer Service - April 2005 by Toyota Logistics Services For the second consecutive year, BNSF received Toyota Logistics Services’ Logistics Excellence Award for Railroad Customer Service. BNSF received the award based on its ability to provide Toyota with superior customer service through daily monitoring of each shipment and proactive notification of service exceptions, as well as having a strong commitment for service improvement.

Owens Corning 2005 Transportation Systems Excellence Award - March 2005
BNSF Logistics was the recipient of the Owens Corning 2005 Transportation Systems Excellence Award. Each year, Owens Corning awards this designation to its top carrier service partners from a global network of nearly 400 transportation service providers. BNSF Logistics was recognized for its ability to effectively anticipate and adjust its processes to meet the needs of Owens Corning while overcoming daily challenges to service providers in a dynamic transportation industry.

Railroad Carrier of the Year - February 2005 by Landstar Logistics Landstar Logistics, headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., named BNSF its Railroad Carrier of the Year Feb. 25, at Landstar’s annual carrier conference held in Addison, Texas. Criteria for the award included BNSF’s on-time performance, equipment condition and availability, sales support, information technology and value-added services. Landstar Logistics agents, who work with railroads across the country, voted BNSF the winner.

2004 Partner of the Year Award - January 2005 by The Home Depot On Jan. 27, BNSF was named 2004 Partner of the Year by the world’s largest home improvement retailer, The Home Depot. BNSF currently provides direct rail carload service to The Home Depot’s distribution centers in addition to providing intermodal transportation.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Award - November 2005 On Nov. 18, BNSF was recognized for going "above and beyond" in support of employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve. The award was presented by the Missouri Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) at a ceremony held in the Governor’s Mansion in Jefferson City, Mo. The award is presented annually by each of the 55 ESGR committees.

Top 25 Military-Friendly Employers - November 2005 by G.I. Jobs magazine
BNSF made G.I. Jobs magazine’s “Top 25 Military-Friendly Employers" list. The list, which is drawn from a sample of Fortune 500 companies, is based on the strength of companies’ military recruiting efforts, their percentage of new hires with prior military service and their policies toward National Guard and reserve service, including pay and benefits.

LATINA Style 50 - October 2005
For the seventh consecutive year, BNSF has been recognized for its efforts in diversity by LATINA Style magazine, which focuses primarily on professional issues that affect Hispanic women. Annually the magazine conducts extensive surveys and evaluates the employment policies and recruitment procedures of more than 600 U.S. corporations to determine which 50 companies will be acknowledged. LATINA Style highlighted seven BNSF programs—the company’s women’s task force, affinity groups, benefits, flextime, scholarships, recruitment and training—as most attractive to Latinas.

Class of 2005 Hall of Fame Award - November 2005 by Kansas State University College of Engineering
Carl Ice, BNSF executive vice president and chief operations officer, was inducted into Kansas State University College of Engineering’s Class of 2005 Hall of Fame. It is the highest honor bestowed on engineering alumni by Kansas State University. The Hall of Fame award recognizes inductees for their professional successes and accomplishments, active involvement with and support of the College of Engineering, dedication to Kansas State University, and professional and public service. Ice was one of six people honored.

Outstanding Young Alumni Award - November 2005 by the Baylor University Alumni Association
Lyn Robbins, senior general attorney, BNSF Law Department, was awarded the "Outstanding Young Alumni" award by the Baylor University Alumni Association for his career achievements. Winners must be under 40 years of age and have distinguished themselves in their fields of study early in their careers. Robbins was one of only five alumni to receive the award.

Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award - September 2005 by the International Economic Development Council
On Sept. 26, Michele (Mike) Keller, regional manager, BNSF Economic Development, was presented with the 2005 International Economic Development Council Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is presented annually to an individual who has shown long-standing, exemplary commitment to economic development over his or her career. During her 39-year career at BNSF, Keller has worked with communities and cities in more than 20 states and helped site more than $1 billion worth of capital investment in economic-development-related projects.

League of Railway Industry Women Awards - September 2005
The League of Railway Industry Women (LRIW), an organization dedicated to increasing the awareness of and educating women in the railway industry, honored two BNSF employees, Murphy Krajenta, director, Equipment Systems and Decision Support, and Carol Weekley, senior manager, Equipment Utilization. Krajenta was named the LRIW “Woman of the Year.” Carol Weekley was named the LRIW “Member of the Year.” BNSF also won the Corporate Award for its support and participation within the league.

Holden Proferock Award - June 2005 by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Hazardous Materials Committee Mark Stehly, BNSF assistant vice president, Technical Research, Environment and Development, was named winner of the Holden Proferock Award. The award is given periodically by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Hazardous Materials Committee for career achievement in hazardous materials excellence. Among his many contributions, Stehly’s work led to new safety standards for tank cars carrying hazardous materials weighing over 263,000 pounds.

Partner in Excellence Award - October 2005 by Lanier Professional Services Lanier Professional Services, which offers services such as reprographics, consulting, systems integration and facilities management, presented BNSF with its Partner in Excellence Award during Lanier’s 2005 Customer Vision Week in October. Over the past year, BNSF has worked with Lanier to further enhance services, lower costs, develop strategic plans and partner on an advisory council. The award shows Lanier’s continued appreciation of BNSF as one of its most valuable customers.
