Because of our public pricing our business provides a level of transparency not available with other modes of transportation. Movement of solid waste and refuse products is somewhat unique in that typically the move involves a tranload at both ends. But unlike intermodal, the customer does all the loading and unloading.

Pricing Tools and Resources

• Solid waste and refuse products are moved under various price authorities:
  • BNSF 90003 - Waste (renews annually in November)
  • BNSF 90037 - Slag (renews annually in November)
• A Mileage-Based Fuel Surcharge is applicable on all BNSF solid waste and refuse product shipments.
• Prices for solid waste and refuse products are renewed yearly in November.
• BNSF requires a completed and approved credit application prior to a shipment order.

• Customers desiring to ship in unit train service must comply with the Unit Train Operating Guidelines. Please note, in order to take advantage of our Unit Train service, you must own or lease your equipment.

Containers

A container is a weatherproof box designed for bulk shipment of freight. Domestic containers come in 45 feet, 48 feet and 53 feet in length. Ocean containers come in 20 feet and 40 feet in length. They are designed for all modes of intermodal transport.

Private Equipment Policy

If you own your own equipment and plan to ship it on BNSF Railway, your equipment must be registered via the OT5 process that is administered by Railinc. To register, you will need your CIF number, proper UMLER information and the car numbers to be registered.
