More on the Plus Side of EZ Pay

2007-12-17

Since EZ Pay rolled out over the summer, 75 percent of through-freight employees have crossed over from the traditional method of inputting pay to the easier, more efficient EZ Pay way.

The "base" EZ Pay Express method generates nine pay codes, and the broader EZ Pay Plus (Option 2) method allows employees to add additional pay codes at the end of the tie-up process. This allows the most flexibility for employees who need to insert codes beyond the most frequently used ones, says J. M. Edwards, conductor and United Transportation Union local chairman, 445#, Ft. Madison (Iowa) East, who also enjoys the flexibility and reliability of EZ Pay.

"I find that EZ Pay is easy to use, and I tell my members that they should use it," he says. "When I come in from a trip, it is nice to just hit a few buttons, have my time slip done and my pay correct. I know there may be a little reluctance about using Option 2, but it is sure simple enough to get EZ Pay and still have the ability to add other codes."

In addition to the convenience of EZ Pay, Engineer Stan Haessig of Fort Madison, likes the speed. "The EZ Pay program is great. I find many (people) using it just to track their monies. All claims can be filed utilizing the EZ Pay program. If an employee has some codes to add to their tickets that aren’t covered by EZ Pay Option 1, they can use EZ Pay Option 2 and still expedite their tie-up, get an earnings receipt and go home or to lodging," says Haessig.

Joe Maloy, engineer, Amarillo, Texas, says, "With the choice of using Option 2 from the EZ pay menu, one can add additional CA (constructive allowance) codes and still get the added benefit of your trip earnings on the trip ticket just like those codes that are already in the EZ Pay system." He adds: "EZ Pay has made it rather nice to have the ability to see immediately what I earned for the trip upon tie-up rather than have to wait two weeks to find out."
