Limit Holiday Stress with an "Easy-Does-It" Attitude
2008-12-08
The holidays are supposed to be the happiest time of the year, but sometimes the pressure of all that seasonal goodwill turns joy into tension, stress and frayed tempers.
Doctors say the simplest way to keep the holidays serene is by adopting an “easy-does-it” attitude. In other words, don’t sweat the small stuff, and remember to reduce tension with simple, cleansing deep breaths.
Dr. Redford Williams, director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Duke University in Durham, N.C., advises people to be reasonable about their expectations for the season. There are sure to be a few difficult moments now and then, ranging from long waits in checkout lines to forgotten batteries and even sadness when thoughts of absent loved ones come to mind.
Read more about making the holiday season stress-free – or as stress-free as possible – by checking the “Easy-Does-It Eases Holiday Stress” in the What’s New section of the OWC.
