BNSF Grade Crossing Safety Continues to Improve
2008-12-11
Grade crossing safety statistics for 2008 through Nov. 30 show continued improvement compared with the same period in 2007.
-
BNSF experienced 1.55 collisions per million train miles compared with 1.79 in 2007.
-
Industrial truck collisions are down 36 percent from a year ago.

Pedestrian/trespasser casualty incidents are down 18 percent.
-
428 crossings were closed, on target for the 2008 goal.
BNSF trespasser incidents show a steady decrease compared with industry numbers. So far this year, BNSF has offered more than 4,900 training opportunities to raise awareness of the importance of grade crossing safety laws and enforcement, including Operation Lifesaver, Grade Crossing Collision Investigation, Rail Safety for Emergency Responders and Officer on the Train events.
