ETD Tip of the Week

When an end-of-train device (ETD) fails, do the following to help prevent train delays:

• Tag the ETD as “bad order” and open an ETD defect. The bad order tag should include a detailed description of the failure.
• Operating personnel need to notify the train dispatcher of the failure (as required by System Special Instructions Item 45). Operating personnel can have a defect opened by contacting the Mechanical Desk in Fort Worth, also required by System Special Instructions Item 45.
• Mechanical personnel should report the ETD failure to their supervisor, who should open the ETD defect.

Remember, ETD defects and bad order tags help you identify bad-order ETDs and keep them off a train.
