ETD Tip of the Week
2008-12-22
Make sure end-of-train devices (ETDs) are visible on trains.
End-of-train devices (ETDs) have two components to increase visibility at the end of a train:
On battery-powered ETDs, the reflector is on the battery pack.
On air-turbo ETDs, the reflectorized surface is on the ETD itself at about mid-point of the ETD.
Make sure tape and shipping labels are removed from reflectorized surfaces or the marker beacon before an ETD is placed in service and that the area is appropriately cleaned.
